Phillips joins transit supporters to announce start of Link light rail service
First day of service is July 18
SEATTLE — King County Executive Candidate Larry Phillips joined other transit leaders yesterday in the announcement of July 18 as the first day of light rail service.
“The first day of light rail service will be a history moment for our region and being a new era of affordable, accessible transit service,” said Phillips.
Phillips is a leading proponent and proven supporter of King County’s mass transit system. He serves on the board of Sound Transit and is chair of the Central Link Oversight Committee, which monitors the schedule, budget and public involvement programs associated with the project. In 2008, he helped lead the campaign for Sound Transit 2, strongly supporting the 36-mile light rail addition to the Link light rail. This expansion will occur over 15 years and expand the system to a 55-mile regionwide light rail network.
“As King County Executive, I will continue to support transit solutions that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and improve transportation choices for commuters, working families and residents all across our region,” said Phillips.
