Larry Phillips releases Greenprint for King County
Framework to create jobs and protect the environment
Seattle, WA – Larry Phillips, candidate for King County Executive, has today released his Greenprint for King County, a framework to protect the environment, foster the green economy and promote sustainable growth in our region.
The King County Executive’s race has seen some name-calling and gimmicks, but it has lacked substantive, positive plans for the future. With the release of the Greenprint, Phillip is elevating the debate with a progressive, forward-looking vision to protect our environment and create green jobs.
“We’re facing some serious challenges in King County, and it’s time to get serious about our plans for the future,” said Phillips. “This is my progressive vision to make King County cleaner and greener for the next generation.”
Greenprint is a framework to guide King County back to its rightful place as the gold standard for environmental protection and green innovation. The plan includes specific initiatives, including:
- Establishing a Waterways 2015 plan to remove poisons from our rivers and Puget Sound
- Promoting a $50 million farms and forest bond of existing open space revenues to preserve rural landscapes and natural resources
- Creating initiatives to promote sustainable, transit-oriented communities
- Expanding King County’s programs that help fight climate change and reduce greenhouse gas emissions
While a vision for the environment, Greenprint will also create jobs. For example, by 2015, the green building industry will create 7,000 professional jobs in Western Washington, including architects, engineers and design consultants. These are family-wage jobs that cannot be outsourced.
“The beauty of King County and our great natural resources are only surpassed by the energy and creativity of the people who live here. This gives us hope that we can protect our environment and grow with grace,” said Phillips.
